Second Annual Music Scholarship Benefit Concert
Sunday, December 14, 2008, 4 pm
West Valley College Theater
Join us for a tremendous, dynamic WVJO Guest Artist Series Concert with "one of the 25 best drummers of all time" (Modern Drummer magazine) while supporting the music scholarship fund at West Valley College. In addition to great music, Benefit premium ticket purchasers will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Weckl and enjoy fine food and wine at a post-concert reception.
Drummer Louie Bellson was originally scheduled to appear, but had to cancel because of an accident. Existing ticket holders should note the concert time is now 4 pm.
Dave Weckl is a phenomenal jazz artist that has played and recorded with many legends of contemporary jazz and pop including Chick Corea, Mike Stern, Michael Brecker, Michel Camillo, Simon & Garfunkel, George Benson, Diana Ross, Lee Ritenour, and Robert Plant. He is known for combining strength, power, technique, and impeccable time with astonishing taste and finesse. He has released over a half-dozen of his own recordings and tours the world regularly leading The Dave Weckl Band.
“Big band music and musical education have always had a special place in my heart,” said Weckl, currently touring with the Mike Stern Band in Spain. “I’m honored to be returning to West Valley College to be part of this fantastic music scholarship benefit and to play with this incredible band.” The West Valley Jazz Orchestra is a group of local professional musicians with a 25 year history, directed by Gus Kambeitz.
Ticket are available online (credit card) and at the door (cash or check only):
- VIP: $100 – premium seating and Artist Gala Reception
- Conductors Circle: $50 – general seating and Artist Gala Reception
- General Admission: $20 – concert only, reception not included
A portion of VIP and Conductor's Circle ticket prices are tax-deductible, and proceeds benefit the West Valley College Music Scholarship Fund.
